There are many prop hire companies that can supply you with props. The golden rule should be always to try and see the prop before you hire as this avoids the expectation/reality gap. Remember that those involved in prop-hire, prop making, model making though involved in a commercial undertaking are often very sympathetic to the needs of the low budget film maker. As a general rule prop houses do not have an appointment process, you can turn up as and when you like, although you may find that certain times are better than other as they could have quite a few customers to deal with.
